Freedom Schools - Birch Grove Elementary

The Children's Defense Fund - Freedom Schools program provides summer enrichment that helps children fall in love with reading, increases their self-esteem, and generates more positive attitudes towards learning. Children are taught using a model pedagogy that supports children and families around five essential components: high-quality academic enrichment; parent and family involvement; civic engagement and social action; inter-generational leadership development; and nutrition, health and mental health. This is a free program and families must participate in weekly family nights and/or volunteer.  The parent or guardian is responsible for transportation to and from the program. No buses are provided.  Scholars are expected to arrive 15-20 minutes before the Harambee start time.  All scholars must be picked up promptly at 3 pm. Late fees will apply. Admission is based on classroom and grade level spaces. Upon admission, you will be notified by email. You must confirm your acceptance. If we do not hear back from you, we will open the space for another scholar to participate. All scholars must be enrolled in and attend an elementary or middle school within Osseo Area Schools ISD 279 in order to participate. A mandatory parent/guardian orientation will be required with more information provided upon acceptance.
