Summer Academic Assistance: One-on-One TutoringAcademic AssistanceThank you for your interest in the Academic Tutoring program. Our goal is to provide students with the additional support needed for academic success. Your feedback, questions and comments are essential for the program to grow and change to meet the needs of your student. Please see below for tutoring program, fees, policies and procedures. We have partnered with Academic All Star Tutoring (AAST) to meet the needs of ISD 279 families. AAST has been serving families in the NW metro area for more than 10 years. Whether the tutor is an employee of ISD 279 or not, they all have teaching or tutoring experience, as well as a completed background check. Please contact AAST directly to proceed with getting a tutor lined up for you child by calling them directly at 763-682-1281 or emailing info@academicallstartutoring.com. Tutoring Philosophy We will talk with you about your child’s academic needs, personality, learning style, interests and such before matching him/her up with a tutor. Every effort is made to provide a tutor that will work well with your child to establish an effective one-on-one relationship. If you are not happy with your tutor, contact us immediately and we will discuss our possibilities together. Most students need to bring the materials and supplies (schoolbooks, worksheets, tests or quizzes, etc.) for every session. The tutor can also work with material provided by ISD 279 Teaching and Learning Department. Tutors may also have materials that they bring to use with the student. We tutor directly from the school’s curriculum, so students can make progress at their grade level or in their classes. The tutor’s role is to teach your child concepts and to help them understand the subject content. AT NO TIME DURING THE SESSION WILL A TUTOR COMPLETE HOMEWORK FOR YOUR STUDENT. THEY WILL NOT WRITE ON ANY SCHOOL PAPERS OR “GIVE THE RIGHT ANSWERS” TO A TAKE-HOME TEST, ETC. It is very important that you and your child understand this. We do not “guarantee” grades. We do guarantee the tutor will do their best to teach content in a way that your child can understand. Tutoring is a two-way street. Your child has to be open to improving and willing to ask the questions they may be too shy or embarrassed to ask in class. That is why one-on-one tutoring is so effective. However, if your child “forgets” their work, or tells the tutor they have nothing to review during a session, it will be wasting time and money. Our philosophy is that no question is too dumb to ask, it’s okay to say “I still don’t understand”, and not everyone will grasp material the first time. Policies Once a tutor and schedule have been assigned by AAST, the family will pay a one-time registration fee of $65 to Osseo Community Education. They will send a receipt for this fee. To reschedule or cancel a session, the tutor must be informed within 24 hours of the session. If the tutor is not given proper notification, the session will be deducted from the session credits. In the case of a snow day or family emergency, the session will be rescheduled. Tutoring will be held on a regular basis at a consistent time, day and location. AAST will collect all session package payments directly from the family. Location To be determined between AAST, Community Education and the family. Tutors are not allowed to go into homes to conduct tutoring sessions. Online Tutoring Online tutoring is available for grades 9-12. The student and tutor still meet at regularly scheduled time each week. We use a very user-friendly platform that allows face to face interaction, as well as an online whiteboard to go over assignments and study for exams. Student Expectations Be prepared with textbooks, class assignments, and writing utensils. Manage your time and be prompt. Be an active learner and focus on your lesson. Students must be RESPECTFUL, SAFE & COOPERATIVE For more information on process or pricing, call Community Education and we can mail you a packet. Contact Marlene Dean at 763-391-7223. Once you have made a final decision, you will work directly with Academic All Star Tutoring to schedule your sessions.Camp ROCKS! Mini Camps 21
